SQL Server Permissions

Detailed Description

The Simply Migrate Management Shell requires a SQL database in order to store a wide range of data.

Everything from message details, instance configuration, job histories and much more.

As a result, the Simply Migrate Database should be run on a full version of SQL Server for the majority of deployments, but SQL Express is supported for smaller implementations.

SQL Server Permissions

The user context that the Simply Migrate Management Shell is initially run under, requires DB Creator rights in order to correctly configure the SQL Database you wish to use during Discovery, Reporting and Migration.

In order to configure DB Creator rights for an account in SQL Server, there are a few documented methods that can be followed.

From a high level, the account used to run the first implementation of the Simply Migrate Management Shell requires DBCreator rights, and for the purposes of simplicity, the user context that the Simply Migrate Management Shell is then used under requires DBOwner rights against the Database created for use.

The default Database name is SimplyMigrate.
